Pumpkin Spice Everything...

Well…I hate to admit it, but it appears as though summer has now slipped by and we are officially in the grips of the fall season. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy pumpkin spice "everything” as much as the next guy. Posting pics of changing leaves and the warm colours is certainly hard to resist, and I thrilled to embrace the return of our national pastime, but the reality is, this is the perfect, and possibly last chance to finish up those projects we’ve been putting off all summer. Just remember, if your going to do these, focus on the task at hand, enjoy the weather, embrace it, and do it well.

For those of you thinking of selling, these few simple tips will provide a strong ROI and are well worth the time and effort. Some of these may be long overdue and regardless of the reasons, will leave you with a sense of accomplishment and pride of ownership.

Your front door: By far one of the simplest, and easiest, is to refresh your front door. A fresh coat of paint certainly helps your home stand out and sets the tone for what’s inside. Done in just a few hours, just choose your day wisely and stand back as you see your home transformed before you.

The deck: For buyers seeing the deck in state of disrepair, or even just dirty, will almost certainly sour their opinion of the home. Even if they decide to purchase, be assured it will be reflected in the negotiations. Sometimes a bit of maintenance, coat of paint or a quick pressure wash is all it takes.

Exterior: just take a minute to go over everything from checking outdoor vents, cleaning the eavestroughs (priceless), to cleaning up scuffs or fastening the odd bit of trim. Again, even a quick pressure wash of the exterior can transform the look following what is at times years of neglect. The last thing you want is to turn off any potential buyers before even stepping inside with what are often minor details and distractions. Remember first impressions are everything.

For those of you not sure where to best invest your time and resources to get the best returns, I’d be happy to provide some insight and offer suggestions specific to your place. Just give me a call and I’d be happy to stop by for a chat…I’ll even bring the pumpkin spice latte.
